"The cold never bothered me anyway."
Elsa - Disney’s Frozen (2013)
I feel that this entire song is applicable to anyone that has ever been ostracized or made fun of for their interests or talents or quirks. Like, we are constantly told to “Don’t let them in, don’t let them see” and to “Be the good girl you always have to be” when it comes to our individuality. And this song is about Elsa realizing that it’s part of her, and that she can’t hide from it, so she decides that she doesn’t “care, what they’re going to say”, because it never early bothered her. But the thing is, it always has, just like how names and teasing always hurts us, even if we act like it doesn’t. And so we put up a mask of indifference, and it’s similar to how while Elsa is singing this song as if it’s joyful and she feels accepted, while she’s actually isolating herself from everyone else. And so while “the cold never bothered [her] anyway”, it truly did, and still does.
And that’s just why I love Elsa a lot, and I relate to her on an infinite level.
